Motivation Makes a Difference

No matter how long you put it off for, the dreadful task of organizing your attic is inevitable and there will come a day when you will have no choice but to get your hands dirty if you want some extra space (who doesn’t?). So, the first thing you can do is to draw some motivation by visualizing a neat and tidy attic which gives you the freedom of easily storing your stuff while freeing up some much needed space in your house. After mentally preparing yourself for this task, now it’s time to get down to work and you will pat yourself on the back once you are done with this job.

First of all, you need to sit down and meticulously plan the entire project to avoid hiccups during the work and regrets later on. You will have to plan the space available in your attic and then see what have you got that needs to go up in the attic for storage. In addition to that, you also need to divide your stuff into groups based on how often you will be needing your stuff. This planning will help you in making an attic organization that is long lasting and access to things will be just a breeze. It is also easier to put the things back when the arrangement is well planned and organized.

The next obvious step is to review each item ruthlessly and keep the things that you really need. Anything that you haven’t used in a while is a strong candidate for the trash can (things that bring up some sweet memories are definitely an exception).

After clearing away the clutter, now you can start cleaning your attic to set the stage for a great-looking and well-organized attic. During the cleaning, you should also run a safety check by inspecting each and every corner (especially the floor boards) and see if there is something that looks weak and needs attention.

Once the attic is ready to be filled, select the type(s) of containers that will hold all your stored stuff. This is a very important decision because the right selection, in terms of size and shape, will enable you to complete this mission with the desired outcome. The containers should meet the criteria of durability, space and size so that they can be easily filled with stuff and moved up there without any problem.

After filling up your containers, don’t forget to label every one of them with the items that it contains. If the labeling is skipped, you will be at a loss when you go back to look for something. You will eventually end up opening all the storage bins one by one which will leave you frustrated and with the uphill task to reorganize the entire garage attic all over again!

So instead of procrastinating, just start the ‘attic organization’ project and get over it as soon as possible to start reaping the fruit of your hard work.

Happy organizing!
